The collision of dance music and world music is provoking strongly divided opinions. Like olives and Keanu Reeves, it’s a love-it-or-hate-it phenomenon. In the last year, we’ve heard everything from opera to accordion folk get looped into a hit. In our technology-enhanced world, it’s all equally accessible. And since dance/DJ culture has such great potential to transcend borders, it makes sense that we are hearing this reflected in the music itself. Case in point: the new single from Anthony Collins, “Bombay Strings”. Then again, maybe this track is nothing more than pure hedonistic dancefloor fodder, and I’m just thinking too hard!
